I also like Daisy Jane a LOT!
There is a Woody Allen movie called "Everyone Says I Love You" in which the main character is a young woman named Djuna (pronounced JOON-uh, after 1920s novelist Djuna Barnes) but goes by DJ.
I don't think the idea is trendy at all. I wouldn't use it because I like girly names for girls, but I think it's fresh and unusual.
