[Opinions] Kyan
Hi all,What are your impressions on the boy's name (Irish?) Kyan? I THINK, at least I pronounce it as KIE-an. I really like it since I first saw it on a popularity chart in an Australian state back in 2004.
And, is Kian, which is a bit more popular world-wide, pronounced as KEY-an, or the same as Kyan? I think it's different, but otherwise I have no clue. :) Thanks all!

Kyan is a rare Irish surname. However, according to Kyan Douglas, who popularized the name in the USA, that wasn't the origin of his name. He claims the name just came to him one day while he was meditating. His original first name was Hugh. Kian is normally pronounced to rhyme with Ian, so isn't the same name as Kyan. Kian is considered a respelling of Cian, while Kyan is a modern surname form of Cathan.

I like Kyan Douglas, and even though I didn't realize Kyan wasn't actually his (birth) name, I had a feeling it wasn't. If it weren't for him, I'd probably really dislike the name, as it has a very trendy, made-up "feel". I prefer Cian, this spelling, but it would likely be butchered in the U.S. *sigh*

Could Kyan also be inspired by, or a reinvention, or reinterpretation of sorts, of Ryan? At least as a fn? After all, just leave the top curve off your R and you have a K.

There was a man in the tv show "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy", one of the Fab 5 named Kyan and he pronounced it K-EYE-an (rhymes with Ryan). That's the only time I've heard/seen it but instinctively that's also how I would pronounce it.
I quite like the sound but not the spelling. Not sure if it's Irish though.

This looks like a mispelling of Cyan, which is prn. SIE-an, and is a light blue color.Don't like it.
