I've always liked it. The reason I wouldn't have used it was exactly as you say, it was very popular and now it's dated. But I did have an acquaintance who named her daughter Jessica, and that was only about seven years ago.
If you like it, and it's not common where you live, I see no reason you shouldn't use it.
