[Surname] Tarbox
Does anyone know anything about the meaning and origin of the English surname Tarbox?
It was my great-gradmother's maiden name and her father was named Thomas Tarbox.
It's rather strange and I just can't find out much about it. It must be a decriptive surname?

English, from a Lancashire place-name, Tarbock, near Liverpool. I think it's now called Tarbock Green.
The later form developed from the original name, Thornbrook.
There are other versions of this name, such as Tarbuck and Tarbutt.
