Nancy does seem too contrived. I think Essie or maybe even Esper or Per would be cool nicknames. I would go with Essie though.

Esperance seems like a legitimate name to me.

I was thinking about Essie, but I'm not very fond of it. Esper (Espa), Espi, or Per could work, but there is a bit of logic behing Nancy :P
