with the nickname Nancy?
Does that work or does it sound contrived?

I've always thought of temperance as a lifestyle and/or movement rather than a name...
Could just call the kid Nancy or Nancee as an actual name.

Nope. Temperance= Temper + Ance
cross out temper, and Ance --> Ancy --> NancyWhich, IMO, is less contrived than Anne --> Ance--> Ancy--> Nancy.I have been working with Esperance "Nancy" lately.Edited because I can't spell :P

I think Nancy is originally a nickname for Anne. I think it makes much more sense to get Nancy out of Temperance than of Anne so I'd say it's fine. I don't like Temperance or Nancy very much but they're ok.

Nancy is so far removed from Temperance that I can't understand why you would use Temperance if you plan to call her Nancy. They sound so completely different. What would be the point?I have heard of Tempe, pronounced Temp-ee, with a long E sound at the end, as a nickname for Temperance. There is a local legend where I grew up, of a girl named Tempe Wicke. She lived during the Revolutionary War, and when the army (I can't remember if it was the British army or the American army) was requisitioning horses, she hid her horse in her house to prevent them from taking it. Big whoop, I never really understood why this became such a story. Anyway, Tempe's full name was Temperance. What do you think of Tempe as a nickname for Temperance?

Yes, Tempe/Tempie was the obvious choice but I don't know how I feel about it.
I thought Nancy might be a bit of a stretch!

I think any NN can be used for any name. But that being said I don't see a Temperance NN'd Nancy. Why not just use Nancy on it's own?
