I haven't seen Ellen discussed around here for a long time. WDYT? Does it sound trendish? I was thinking about Elanor yesterday, and Ellen popped into my head. Would you use it for a first name or middle name? What combos would you put it in?

Ellen's great. I have a friend named Elen who doesn't have a middle name and I want it to be Elen Katrina or Elen Minerva. But she is resistant. Ellen is different though bc two l's. So - Ellen Letitia, Ellen Christine, Ellen Wilhelmina, Ellen Sophia, Ellen Willow...today is not a good day for combos I guess! I like Ellen lots. I think it will resist today's trends well and be popular soon, like Sylvia.

I like Ellen, but I much prefer Eleanor, Helen and Helena. It makes a good middle name and a sweet first name. I think it will need a few more years before it's fashionable again. I think Helen will come back first.

I think Ellen is lovely. With the popularity of Ellie, Ella, Eleanor etc etc I'm suprised it hasn't caught on more, but I wouldn't say it was trendy.

I really like Ellen, and I'm surprised it isn't more popular. I mean, it has the oh-so-trendy Ell sound, plus the oh-so-trendy lyn/len ending. What more could a trend-happy parent want, right? I like it so much more than Ella, Ellie, Elizabeth, and Eleanor.
I like it as a first name, but the fact that other ell names are so common would probably keep me from using it as a fn. It makes a really nice mn. I liek Christina Ellen a lot.

I think Ellen is lovely and underused - it's not trendy at all. I would use it as a first name, but it works with either. Elanor is ok, but I would use the spelling Elanor as a mn, and Elinor or Eleanor as a fn.

I really don't like the popular Ella. All I can think of is elephant when I hear it. But I'm fine with Ellen. The extra syllable kills the elephant association.
Ellen used to be one of my favorite names when I was about twelve. It's no longer one of my favorites, but I still think it's nice. I don't think it's trendish at all. If anything, it seems a little post World War II-ish to me. It works well as either a first or a middle name.

I get the elephant thing with Ella, too. And even more so with Elly.
Ellen is a name I can see on someone any age, which is one of the reasons I like it.

Ellen is one of those "vanilla" names to me: still a flavor, but a dull one. There's really nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't "pop", if you know what I mean.
