I've seen this name before in a baby book, only it was spelled Keida. The book said it was a Norwegian name meaning "flowing water", but I'm not sure if that is 100% true. Wouldn't hurt to do a little research, though.

I dislike Kaida/ Kaeda. It has a trendy look and sound that is already sounding dated. It also sounds an awful lot like Al Quaeda, as Andromache pointed out.
If you want to honour your friend Kyla, why not use Kyla or Kayla or Kylie? How about Kaya/ Kaia or just Kai? You could use Kyla as a mn, Noelle Kyla?

I know this doesn't really answer your questions about the names' origins and meanings, but beyond your concerns, my big concern with Kaida or Kaeda are the pronunciation issues. How would you pronunce it?

And I must admit that I'm a little confused that the subject line is Kaida, but in the body of your message you alternate between spelling it Kaeda and Kaida. If you can't spell it consistently, how can you reasonably expect others to spell it right?

Also, it's another translation of the Arabic 'Quaeda' (as in 'Al Quaeda').
Searching online, apparently 'small dragon' would be pronounced 'SHOURYU'.
