I don't like it as a name. It just seems kind of silly and excessive. Like naming someone Sphinx or Minotaur or Hydra. Griffin is not that uncommon of a name, but I think that's a bit odd too. Phoenix also makes me think of Jean Grey from X-Men.

Except that besides the bird it was also someone's name in mythologyThere was a man named Phoenix in the Illiad and there is also Phoenix the son of Agenor in Greek mythology. So it's not like naming a kid Sphinx or Minotaur or Hydra because those were never personal names in addition to being the names of creatures/monsters.

OhThanks, I did not know that. But since I didn't know, that's still what it seems like to me. But that does make it less odd then.
