[Opinions] Except that besides the bird it was also someone's name in mythology
There was a man named Phoenix in the Illiad and there is also Phoenix the son of Agenor in Greek mythology. So it's not like naming a kid Sphinx or Minotaur or Hydra because those were never personal names in addition to being the names of creatures/monsters.

OhThanks, I did not know that. But since I didn't know, that's still what it seems like to me. But that does make it less odd then.
