I know a lot of people named Amanda, most of whom are in their early 20s, but I know a few little girls and a few older women as well. It's a nice name because it really works well at every age. Some of these people go by Mandy, but most just use Amanda. I don't think Amy makes a good nickname for Amanda only because it's too much of a name on it's own. I'd be surprised if this name fell completely out of style; I bet it will just go through phases of greater and lesser popularity.
