Help[Opinions] Tiffany
Okay, so I always thought Tiffany was as trashy as it could get but I looked it up and was quite surprised that it has such a long and impressive history, having been given to girls long before the Middle Ages, especially to those born on the Epiphany.
I always thought it was one of those boys to girls names, kind of like Beverly or Hilary but it has actually always been strictly feminine and I like that.
I dislike all alternate spellings (behindthename lists Tiffany as well as Tiffani and Tiffiny ick), I've also seen Tiffanee. I also dislike the nicknames Tiff and Tiffy but I do find Fanny and Fannie rather charming. Do you like Tiffany nn Fanny ?
Do you know any Tiffanys ? How many and how old are they ? How do they spell it ? Do they like their names and do you happen to know their middle names ? Do they have a nickname ? Do you happen to know why they were named Tiffany ?
Does it seem dated ? Very dated ? Will it make a comeback ? (currently out of the top 200). Do you think it's usable ? Does it sound trashy ? What kind of person do you imagine when you hear Tiffany ?

I've never liked Tiffany, or Fanny or whatever other variation.
I knew three girls named Tiffany when I was young. They would all be college age now. I have no idea what their middle names were. Also, I don't know if this is at all relevant or interesting, but all three were completely different ethnicities.

I have always sort of liked Tiffany even though it has a definite 80's vibe. I know two named Tiffany. One is a 17 y/o junior in high school. Her siblings are Stacey, Jenna and Micah. The name is cute on her, she is quite a lovely girl.
The other I know is a 25 year old pharmacist. Very lovely also.

I love Tiffany!
I have always loved the sound of the name. I don't know that many of them so I don't see it as dated as other people do. I think that a little girl named Tiffany today would not have to worry about tons of other Tiffanys around either.
I am actually considering using Tiffany as a middle name. It combines my husbands name and my MILs name. His is Timothy and she is Fannie. But I really really dislike Fannie (and so does she BTW) so this is as close to honoring as she is going to get with me.
I guess that answers your Fanny question. No I don't like it and would never use it.

I wouldn't say that Tiffany has always been "strictly feminine". It really went out of use as a girl's name for the most part during the 18th and 19th century. And since it became a surname, like most British surnames, it was occasionally given to boys during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
For instance, there are 27 people listed as having the first name Tiffany in the 1880 census of the USA found on Ancestry.com, and 26 of them are listed as male. :)
Like most names, Tiffany will probably "make a comeback" some day, but if it follows normal patterns, that won't be until around 2080 or so.

I like Tiffany, but wouldn't use it unless my daughter was born on the epiphany, because it has a ditsy/trashy cheerleader name reputation. I don't like the nn Fanny because it's quite a rude word in English, but I think Tiff is cute if only used occasionally, just an affectionate familial shortening, but not a common name used by others.

I've always really liked Tiffany. I wouldn't mind using it, though it was never a top contender and my husband doesn't like it much. I only like the spelling Tiffany, the other spellings look tacky. Tiff and Tiffy are just kind of icky. Fanny in the US or UK is a big no-no, anda rotten thing to do to a beautiful name.
