I am biased though, Matilda is rather popular in Sweden. It is pronounced as Mah-TILD-ah.
There is also the French variant Mathilde, I think it is pronounced Ma-TILD.

Matilda pretty name
Clothilde is prettier to me. My cousin had a rat named Matilda - I wouldn't use it on a person.

I prefer Matilda. I knew one woman named this, her nick-name was Tilda. Clothilde is pretty challenging to non-French speakers.
I prefer Matilda. They're both in an older, classic style...but Matilda is more easily recognized. I like Mattie as a nn possibility.
