[Opinions] Aretha
The other day I watched a film on Ray Charles ' life. His mother was named Aretha. There's also, obviously, Aretha Franklin. The name also reminds me of queen Arete in the Odyssey. I rather like it.Does anyone know if in the US it's a predominantly African American name, or not necessarily?

I think it is predominantly African American in the US, though I don't know if it is really used much at all, but my friend Rebecca wants to name her first daughter Aretha Geraldine or Charlotte Aretha and she's white so it's not necessarily. I dislike it because it reminds me of urethra.

I knew a girl named Areta (ah-ree-tuh) who was Greek, she had a twin sister named Alexandra "Sandy"
