But that can't be why they picked this name, since "Jether" is impronounceable in Japanese.

It may or may not be unpronounceable in Japanese butthat doesn't really enter into it. Only abbasdaughter can answer this question, I suppose, but given that she's posting from Japan (see her profile), it certainly seems to make sense that the abbreviation used meant Japanese. The OP says the child's father is not Japanese. Who knows how they pronounce it or why they picked it. I'm just saying "Jpns" must in this context mean Japanese.

I wasn't contesting that and I didn't know abbasdaughter was based in Japan.
Maybe I should have put my comment under the OP, which seemed possibly to imply that the name might be Japanese and that this kid wasn't in Japan. In the Facts Board I get the impression some people have rather odd ideas of Japanese pronounciation. Obviously all of this is not the case in this specific context.
