[Opinions] Snow
I came across a little girl named Snow (in a book) recently and have been thinking about it, especially since it's also a family surname. What do you think of Snow for a girl?I would most likely use it as a middle name. I would like suggestions for first names for Snow. Thanks!

Not in En. I don't consider it a given name in En...Could search under meanings for snow and see what other possibilities you could come up with. I know Yuki in Jpns. can mean snow if you use that kanji and there may be other possibilities.

I agree with mirfak's hesitations on the sounds flowing together and the potential race connotations. That being said, I love the theory (which is why Eira is on my PNL; it means snow, but I won't use Snow itself for previously mentioned reasons). :) You might be able to pull it off because of the family surname.

funny becauseI never even thought of the race connotations yet I thought of how snow was a slang word for drugs (the powdered stuff...). I saw that expression being used just today on some crime/detective show and it bothers me a lot.....argh Emmeline Snow would've been so lovely.

In theory it's nice. But ...I don't think it'd make such a great mn because the whole name will sound like "First's no Last" or "Firsts Know Last"Anna Snow Jones = Anna's no Jones, Annas know JonesAnd as a first name I would hesitate because of the Snow White association (and the next level, which is the race association since Snow White is named for her complexion).

But...in both of those examples the sound is "z" not "s." Anna's is pronounced "AN uhz" at least the way I say it. Maybe I'm just not hearing what your're hearing.

I'm just picky about that stuff.I don't think it should necessarily stop everyone from using a name, but I've gotten so that I listen for it, and it would bother me way too much to use a name that had something like that. Like Isaac Cox. Maybe I'm the only one who hears it, but I do hear it! *shrug* It's not that tragic though.

I love it as a mn (but then I am of the opinion that pretty much anything goes as a mn).One of my gp combos is November Snow. :D It paints a very pretty picture for me.I really think it would go well with most names - it's a one-syllable name like Jane, Kate, Rose, Ann, etc. Some ideas:Ada Snow

Lorelei Snow is lovely, and so is November Snow. You're right, very pretty picture.OT: I want to ask you about the lovely (poem? partial poem?) in your sig. I think it's beautiful. Did you write it?
vote up1
No, I didn't write it. It's actually from a song called "A Billion Tons of Light" by Vega4 (which, now that I think about it, I should've included *facepalm*). It's my favorite song right now, that part in particular. :) I came across the song (and the band - I hadn't heard of them) in a fanmix someone made. It's an amazing song.EDIT: Oh right... I did try to include the song and band originally but it made the sig too long. Forgot about that, lol.

I'm liking it [le gasp]Lately... Snow, Winter, Wren, etc. have seriously been growing on me. I'm starting to like them a lot as middle names. Probably a GP thing, but still. The fact that it's a family surname makes it better for you! Here are my suggestions:Emmeline Snow
Amelia Snow
Hannah Snow
Isabel Snow
Olivia Snow
Octavia Snow
Alexandra Snow
Lucy Snow
Elizabeth Snow
Cassandra Snow
Julia Snow
Natasha Snow
Cornelia Snow (I love the flow on this one)
Laura Snow (I'd rather have this as my MN than Meryl!)
Matilda Snow
Camilla Snow

just wonderingdo you still remember how I posted about Snow as a middle name? Just wondering because two of my favorites were Emmeline Snow and Octavia Snow. They are both still on my list :)
vote up1
Really?!I don't remember that at all! How weird. I just thought they sounded pretty. :-P
vote up1
wow :) yeah they are lovely. I can never decide between Emmeline Pearl and Emmeline Snow, though.
vote up1
I prefer Snow to Pearl... Pearl seems so much frumpier to me, but it's probably one of those names that's going to come back with its old-fashioned cousins Ada and Charlotte.

I think it's sweet and it has extra meaning for you because of the family connection. Just please resist any tempation to use a cutesy / obvious fn like Christmas or Winter. I'd avoid place names as fns too.Miranda Snow

Vivien Snow
Isidora Snow
Artemisia Snow
Natalie Snow
Wilhelmina Snow (Mina)
Evelina Snow
Viveca / Viveka Snow
Deirdre Snow

Ha! I wouldn't ever use Christmas or Winter as first names in any case.I like a lot of your suggestions, especially...Wilhelmina Snow (Mina) - I like Minna as a nn, too.
Rosamund Snow
Evelina Snow
Cordelia Snow

Eleanor Snow is very nice. Thanks!

It's cute as a mn! The first combo that popped in my head was Sarah Snow, or Cera Snow (possibly still thinking of Cerena from the below post.)And the great thing about it, because it's a word name, is that it can work with so many different names! Ada Snow
Amy Snow
Cecilia Snow
Cecily Snow
Edith Snow
Elinor Snow
Elizabeth Snow
Estella Snow
Honoria Snow
Ida Snow
Ingrid Snow
Johanna Snow
Julia Snow (sweet)
Lavinia Snow
Mira Snow
Saskia Snow
Theodora Snow
Vera Snow (♥)
Virginia Snow
Xenia Snow...These are all just from your PNL, and look how nice they are! It's mn gold as far as I'm concerned. And it's also nice that it's a family name for you.

Thanks for your comments. I really like Julia Snow and Vera Snow.

Ooooh....Vera Snow is so pretty. *love* Never really thought much about Vera, but it's pretty. I think I'll go add it. :D
vote up1
Sorry, but it reminds me of a dog we had when I was little and I can't imagine it on a person. However, it's not dreadful as a MN, just not for me. For FN's, I would pair it with something soft like Katherine or Jillian.
