[Opinions] Madison
Do you prefer this on a boy or a girl? Also, if you heard someone being called this name but did not see a child would you think it was a boy or girl being called? My friend's brother's name was Madison but he was having so many problems in school because of it. Teachers, mainly subtitutes, would get him confused for a girl, there were several girl Madison's in his grade, and kids would make fun of him for having a "girls" name. He is now a freshman and had his name legally changed to Magnus. Do you think Madison is that bad for a boy?

I like it better on a boy. but..if I heard someone calling a child Madison, but didn't see the kid, I'd think girl, same with Mackenzie or Avery or any other name that has been turned into a feminine name by a huge lot of people.though, Magnus is an attractive name, I think Madison is fine for a boy.

boy [m]Madison IS masculine. ETA: He could aways say well Madison IS a man's name just because girl's use it doesn't make it a girl name. Besides even if he was assumed a "girl" at first isn't the worst thing.I dislike it when people stop using boy's names because they are popular on girls. I would love to meet a boy named Madison. I am considering it for a son as well.

I don't really like it on either gender, because... it just sounds like a last name, not a first name.I think people will assume it's a girl because it's more popular for girls. Like earlier this school year, in my lunch, someone mentioned a Taylor and it was assumed they were female. Turned out they were talking about a boy. The guy they were talking to said "Why'd they give him a girl's name?"If I had a son named Madison though, I'd call him Mads.

I've generally thought of Taylor as gender neutral and initiallly thought of it as a surname and then a boys' name...

Prefer it on a boy. If I heard someone calling this name I would probably think it was a girl but I would hope that just maybe it would be a boy.I don't think Madison is that bad for a boy.

I prefer it on neither, but a boy if any.

I think it's better on a boy since it's quite masculine, but it's so widespread on girls at the moment that maybe it's difficult to pull off on a boy.

I'd think it was a girl. It's so popular for girls that I'd be surprised to see it on a boy. I don't like it at all on a girl, especially because of the -son ending (I also dislike Addison, Alison etc) and because it's so trendy. I dislike it on a boy as well. I think it's too masculine for a girl and too feminine (maybe because of its nickname Maddie) for a boy.I'd rather see it on a girl but I'd like not to see it at all for some time.Yeah I think it's bad on a boy. Just as bad as on a girl. But a girl named Madison would have it way easier so I'd prefer it on a girl.

I don't think Madison is bad for a boy, because it's originally a masculine name, but it's become so common on girls now that kids might think of it only as a girls' name - so, as in the case you presented, a little male Madison might be teased. It's unfortunate, because I think it's quite cute on a guy.

It means "son of Maud" so it's most definitely supposed to be a masculine name, but currently it's more popular on girls. I don't mind it on either, and I wouldn't assume either way until I was sure.

Definitely a girl... Doesn't sound masculine at all even though meaning-wise, it's for a boy ... very girly.
