I will be having a baby within the next few weeks! The boy's name we have decided on is:

Theodore Caulfield (nn Ted or Teddy)

For girls, we have two choices,

Victoria (nn Vicky or Tory)
Diana

we would possibly use Caulfied (a family name) as a mn for a girl, too.

I like that Victoria has 2 cute options for nn, depending on what would fit her, and the full name sounds so proper.

I like that Diana is a lot less common (it seems that Victoria became pretty popular in the 1990s) since I don't want a too-common name. I also like that Diana is the huntress, godess of the moon. Both sound equally good with out last name.

Any thoughts?

I love Theodore, btw. And I definitely prefer Diana to Victoria. Victoria is pretty, but I agree it was overdone in the 90s. There were so many little girls called Tori. :b (And I can't stand the nn Tori, nor Vicky) But Diana is beautiful, feminine, classic but fresh sounding; not overused.

I like both, but I think I would go with Diana, since it is the less common name right now. Both are regal, traditional and feminine.

I've noticed that one of your other messages was under the name "another expecting mom". While I'm sure you meant this in fun/ harmlessly, it is strictly against the rules to use more than one name. Please stick to one name only in the future.

I prefer Diana. If you go with Victoria, use nn Tori! Vicky is overused

First I have to say that Theodore is a fantastic choice. It's one of my favorite names. :-) You really couldn't go wrong with Victoria or Diana, but I personally prefer Diana. It's elegant and uncommon enough to be different, but not strange. I don't care much for the nicknames Tori or Vicky for Victoria anyway.

Victoria although both names are nms. I think I've just had more bad run-ins with Dianas than Victorias.

Personally I'd go with Victoria. I like it much better than Diana. I also really like Tori (prefer that spelling than Tory) as a nn. I think you could use Caulfield as a mn for a girl. You hardly ever find out what people's mn's are anyway. I think Victoria Caulfield is fine.

Hmm. That's difficult because both combos flow well, but I would say Victoria, nn Tory. Or Tori, if you want to be cute.

Definitely Diana. Both are great feminine classics, but Diana seems much fresher. Theodore is great, BTW. Lucky child.

Diana!

I love Diana but I don't like Victoria. Victoria seems like one of those names that is just long with an "ah" at the end and that's its sole qualification for being a beautiful name. The Victorian era kind of sours it for me as well. I think Diana, though, has a great sound to it, very strong and regal. I don't know why I don't feel the same way about Victoria, considering that it could be described with the same words, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

Diana all the way. It is one of my favourite names, and a possible choice if the baby is a girl. It's gorgeous, underused, classic, and ages well!

I like Victoria because it fits Theodore in lenght. (This has something to do with my brothers and my name. I'm Charlotte and he's Kristoffer. I think at least fn's should be equal lenghts, give or take 1-2 letters. But that's just me having very strange ideas here.)

I wouldn't know about commonness, since I'm in Denmark, where none of the names are that common. Well maybe Victoria is a bit popular.

I do like Victoria a lot better for the "victory" meaning.

Victoria and Diana are both beautiful and classy names.

I would go for the less popular Diana. I don't get this nn thing, why *must* everyone have a nn? Why choose a beautiful name and then hide it behind a nn for the rest of her life? Though there are nn options for Diana too: Di, Ana or Anni

If I had a Victoria, I might use Ria as an occasional nn.

BTW, I love Theodore.

Ah -- I agree -- I guess I didn't make it clear that what was important for me and DH was that we wanted a name where we liked the potential nns, in case we or others ended up using them! I do agree that the names are most beautiful on their own.
