[Opinions] Lakota
I met an eight year old boy named Lakota today. I'm not sure if he was named for the Lakota tribe or if his parents just thought it was the next Dakota. Personally, I don't much care for it. WDYT?

I'm a small part Lakota
I find it odd, but I have seen it used before. Too me it is like naming a baby Swedish.

I love it...
My cousin has a dog, a gorgeous huskie named Lakota and personally I think it fits perfectly. I'm fond of the name for that reason.
However, it should stay on animals. On a human, it sounds trashy.

I don't care for it either
I'm reminded of fan fiction, web comics, and fantasy video games.
And Chekotay from Star Trek. lol
I don't even like Dakota. I think of a rich white kid with no serious life problems.
Or a little boy with bleach blond spiky hair, whose parents get him all the coolest toys, which he shows off at school.

I used it in some fan fiction that I wrote. Not a main character, though. Her parents live in their own world, and thought that Lakota Souix was a name, not a tribe. I know a Dakota from when we were in high school back in the 90's, so for me Dakota and Cheyenne (both Native Americans) are normal names. Others with those names I've met are white, but since Indians used those as names, it must be alright.
Magical herbal pills
We have so many commercials about some kind of "ancient Indian secret" in these vitamin supplement pills that are called "Lakota" up here in Canada. I don't know if they air anywhere else. They make me so sad because it seems to make a mockery of Native culture; the way they are peddling it :( First they tried to get rid of Native cultures...now they want to cash in on it.
It is an attractive name to be sure, but that is my first association with it.
