I can't believe I didn't think of how it sounds like raining blood when I replied to the OP last night! It really does - it sounds like the scene in the Iliad where Sarpedon dies and Zeus makes it rain blood because of how sad he is! That's a real nice association, but I wouldn't expect the parents to know about it.
