[Opinions] Petal?
Do you think you could get away with naming your child Petal?
Have you ever met anyone with that name?

I haven't met a person with this name, but my friend has a cat named Petal. It is quite possible to "get away with it" though, for a person.

I had planned to name a pet rabbit Petal, but now unfortunately have developed an allergy (to rabbits, not the name!).I would not recommend it for a child.Have never met a Petal.

It's a bit twee as a given name. I think it's ok as a nn but to me it's like naming your kid Treasure or Sausage or Darling. I used to know one woman called Petal but it's a nn. Her real name is either Kerry or Carrie - apparently she was one of a few with the same name at a new workplace and they nicknamed her Petal after the book she was reading, which I think was 'Petals on the Wind' by Virginia Andrews lol. It definitely stuck - everyone calls her Petal.

No!Petal is a term of endearment, not a full name.

All I think of is THE "pedal"....So I can't say I like the name, and I don't find it aesthetic as a name, but: yes, I think you'd definitely get away with it. If you can call you child Lily or Willow, why not Petal? It's not "bucket" or "trunk", it's a nice thing, so I think it's OK. I just don't find it pretty at all. Oh, and I've never met anyone with this name, but a Petal something was mentioned in Gilmore Girls once, apparently an elderly lady who play golf or so, I don't remember it clearly anymore ;).

I think it's very cute, especially for a little girl, but to me it feels more like a nickname or term of endearment than a full name. I'd use Petal as a nickname for Petra if my DH would consider the name. I also would have used it if I'd had a daughter named any flower name. I love the idea of an Iris or Rose nicknamed Petal, Blossom, or Posy.

I think it's ok to use it, though I wouldn't use it myself. But it has its charm.

I look the look of it, but when I pronounce it, it sounds no different from pedal, which doesn't sound like a name at all. That's just me, though. Maybe others will get the "t" to come out more.

I plan on using Petal as a nickname for Petronel...It's the only way I could sell Petronel to my SO.

I don't like it seems nicknamey

I think it could work. It is similiar enough to names like Rose, Posy, Fleur, and Lily. I don't know that I would use it but it could definately work.

I love firefly!! I remember Petaline, that was a very cute name. You could use that and then have Petal as a nn, thanks for reminding me!

I think of Petal, more as a term of endearment. Not as a name, especially as a fn. Might be ok, as a mn. Also reminds me of, "pedal". How about, Petra?
