[Opinions] Does ANYONE besides me hate Maud(e)?!
I cannot STAND the names Maud or Maude. They're frumpy, clunky, and I always think "Maud the Fraud." Am I the only one here who thinks this?!Iris, on the other hand, is lovely and classy. Two thumbs up.

Thank you!Sometimes I feel like the only person on here who doesn't love just any old ancient name. Some are ugly. This is one of them.

Yes!I think Maud(e) is horrible. It's ugly, clunky, downtrodden and...ew. Iris, however, is really lovely.

Maud sound like the German word for "murder" so I dislike it

I agree.I feel likewise about Anneliese and Beatrice, as a matter of interest. To me they--along with Maude--sound like a derelict living room set with moldering upholstery and yellowed doilies. No kidding.

I dislike Maude also but Iris is no better. I hate the eye sound

I avoid thatby using the Hebrew pronunciation ee-REES. I think it's even lovelier than EYE-riss, although I do like that as well.

Couldn't agree more!Maud and Maude just sound frumpy, old-fashioned and clunkyto me and Iris is absolutely lovely, fresh and interesting.

I dislike both of them, but I don't take issue with Maud(e) quite the way I do with, say, Abigail.

ditto, I know heaps of women named Iris in their 40s, too early for a comeback

A bit too early, yes.I guess it's coming back a bit now because Lily and other flower names are big... but haven't flower names always been big? Another couple decades and I'll be ready for Iris.

Me, me!I agree with what you said. And there's nothing pleasant-sounding about it whatsoever. I like Iris, though.
