What do you think of Basil? I pronounce it BAZ-ul, and I think Baz is a great nickname. Any middle name ideas?

Also, what do you think of Cecil (pronounced SES-ul)? Combo ideas, anyone?

I'm really interested in these two at the moment, as front runners for a twin for Beatrice Rosamund Pearl. Do you think they work?

I have a nephew names Basile, however, his is pronounced Baz-EEL, he's French-speaking.

I've had Basil Oliver nn Baz on my short list for a few months now. Love the name!

I prefer Cecile for a girl. I find the male name Cecil a bit shrill, but I don't hate it.

I like Basil, but I would pronounce it Bay-zul. I do like the possible nn Baz, though so maybe I would go with the BAZ-ul pronunciation.
I think Cecil sounds nice, but I don't like it.

Cecil and Beatrice sound good together. I don't like the B and B thing with Beatrice and Basil, though.

I like Basil. I can't really picture it on a baby or a little boy, but I guess Baz I can. Basil Edward and Basil Henry would be nice, but I suppose you'd want two middle names? I'm afraid I'm not good at making those sorts of combos. The only thing I'd be afraid with Basil as the twin of Beatrice is they're both B names.

Cecil is nice too, but I pronounce it SEES-ul.

LOL, I've never even thought about pronouncing Cecil SEES-ul, it's so awkward! I think it's horrible if pr. SEES-ul, honestly. SESS-il works much better, imho. ;)

That's how all the Cecils I know pronounce it.

And sess is really not a nice sound to me at all. Reminds me of cesspools.

Sees-ul sounds much more natural and classier than Sess-il.

Although I prn. Cecilia like Sess-eel-ee-uh.

I say SEE-sull. There is a county near where I grew up called Cecil County and that is how it is said. SESS-ull is a little less severe though; I agree.

Plus that's how my friend pronounces it. It's his middle name (Richard Cecil, in case you're interested).

I had an art teacher who was named Cedric, prn SEE-drik. He said he didn't know why his parents chose to pronounce it that way.

I pronounce Cecil that way too

Basil would work on the right kid, though. Basil Ferdinand springs to mind.
