Hmm...Beatrix and Fable for the firsts, and as for connecting middle names?
Delphine Abigail and Virginia Jean (1st set is both my grandmothers, 2nd set is both dh's)
Valentine Tara and Virginia Elise (Valentine Tara is my mother's full name, Virginia Elise is dh's mother's full name)
Marigold and Rosemary-Both of our favorite flowery names
Verity and Blythe-two of my favorite virtue names (also Clementine)
Opal and Ruby-my two favorite gemstones (also includes Pearl)
Louisa and Frances-first names of two of my favorite childhood books, Louisa Alcott and Frances Hodgson Burnett
Nola and Louisiana-Dh was born in Louisiana, in New Orleans (Nola stands for New Orleans, Louisiana)
For boys, I'd probably connect their middle names by honoring grandfathers, honoring loved ones who've passed, honoring the Saint's football team, honoring two of dh's favorite comic book heroes, nature names (like River and Jasper), or some kind of mythology.
