[Opinions] Saber for a boy
I don't know if anyone has heard this as a name before but I was thinking of the word the other day and decided it would make a very cool boy's name. So WDYT (not necessarily for an actual person- just as a name)? Do you prefer Sabre (this is how sabre, the sword, is spelt here in Australia)? Would it remind you too much of a saber-tooth tiger or a sword? And, finally, would you rather it for a girl instead?

I don't like it. As Murasaki said, it is an instrument of death. And a mite too phallic, at the same time.

Thanks for the opinion =)

I like it. On a boy though, not a girl. I know two people with this name; I thi they are both spelled Saber but I'm not sure. I'm not sure if I would spell it Sabre or Saber... I live in America so I'd probably use Saber to avoid misspellings but I think Sabre would be good in Australia. I just think of a sword, not a saber-tooth tiger, but I don't think it's too much- it's just like any word name.

I don't like it because it sounds violent. Yuck.

Honestly, I don't see what's appealing about Saber. It's a big sword, so as a name it's phallic at best, cruel at worst. It would be even more atrocious on a girl.

*has to play the devils advocate*People name girls Rose and Lily and Daisy; personally I'd much rather be named a sword than a flower. Even though in reality I only like it on a boy, but still.

hmm, what about a just middle ground?...in between girly-girl and and agressive and, there's no way around it, phallic?Anyway, I don't think it's nice to name a child of either gender like an instrument of death.

This is a guilty pleasure of mine for a girl. I think it has a beautiful sound despite any associations with the sword or tiger. It sounds feminine to me but it would work as a boy's name as well because it is a word name.As for the spelling, I'm an American so much prefer the spelling Saber because that is what I'm used to. However in other countries I think Sabre would work just fine.

My friend met a guy named Saber once. The first thing I thought of when she told me was a lightsaber from Star Wars. I think it's a pretty cool name. I think of the spelling Saber as masculine and Sabre as feminine. I also pronounce Sabre as say-bruh because one of the contestants on So You Think You Can Dance has that name.

I hadn't thought of lightsaber! That makes it even cooler! I can see where you're coming from with the masc/fem spellings. Thanks for your opinion too. =)
