[Opinions] Cecil

1. SESS-ul
2. As above. I have never heard it pronounced any other way and wasn't even aware of any other pronuciation until looking it up just now. I am assuming SEE-sil is American?
3. No I don't like it. It's a bit weedy for my liking. I like Cecilia and can tolerate Cecily but don't like Cecil.
Random question, if Cecil is pronounced SEE-sul, are Cecilia and Cecily prn the same way? I guess not, which to me, suggests that SEE-sul is "wrong".

1. How do you pronounce Cecil instinctually?
SES-sil
2. How do you prefer it pronounced?
SES-sil - SEE-sil makes me cringe, which is surely bad of me but I cannot help it.
3. Do you like it?
I could possibly like it, it has potential and a similar feel to some of my favourite boys' names and I absolutely love Cecily and Cecilia for girls.

SESS-uhl
This way. Is SEE-suhl American? Just wondering. I used to live on Cecil Street and there was a Filipino family who pronounced it SEE-suhl
Not really, but my brother-in-law wants to name his son this, after his grandfather, so I might have to get used to it. I prefer the feminine forms.

I instinctively pronounce it SESS-ihl because of a character from ReBoot; whenever anyone called him SEE-sil he would correct them with "It's SESS-ihl." So that's been fairly well ingrained into my head for a long time now.
I do prefer the SESS-ihl pronunciation, and I like it a lot.
