I prefer the spelling with a V because of the unambiguous pronunciation. But I'm used to
Stephen too - that was my neighbor's name when I was growing up. I'm biased about liking
Steven nn
Steve because there's one in my family.
Steve is one of those super-butch one-syllable names, you know? I'd only be concerned about the "date" on it. There were tons of Steves named 30-40 years ago, it seems to me. But a simple masculine name like that would not suffer much from dating.
