[Opinions] Re: Catherine
I love Katherine, but I prefer the K spelling. Katherine is my favorite spelling, and Katharine my least favorite. Even though I prefer the K spelling, I'd still choose Catherine over Katharine, because that A where there should be an E really bugs me.
I have only known two women with the name. One was a girl with whom I went to high school, and she spelled it Catherine. The other was a woman with whom I worked, and she spelled it Kathryn. The Catherine in high school went by Cathy, and Kathryn went by her full name.
In my generation, Kathleen\Cathleen was much more popular than Katherine\Catherine, so although I have known many Kathys and Cathys, in all but the two examples I listed above, their full names were Kathleen or Cathleen. In fact, Kathleen is the name of both my half-sister and my cousin. Overall, Kathleen seemed more popular than Cathleen.
I don't see Cathy on its own will make any kind of comeback. You say that Katherine is falling. It may go the way of Mary. I don't know.
