[Facts] The surname: Martele
Hi,
I have just recently found out the names of my maternal great grand parents. And in doing so I came across the surname: Martele
Now my maternal great grandparents lived in Wales before heading over to Western Australia in 1915.
The information I found regarding Martele, suggests that it was a French surname.
Can anybody help me out.

Martel is the Old French for "hammer". Like Charles Martel, the Frankish king...
It's probably derived from the French word "marteler", which means "to hammer". Maybe your relatives were carpenters?
Thanks for the help
