What do you think of Roberta for a girl? I used to think it was terribly ugly but now it's really growing on me.
What kind of person would have the name Roberta?
Do you know anyone with the name?
Oh and I prefer it pr. ro-BEHR-ta, not ro-BUR-ta.

I was at school with a Roberta who called herself Bert. She was quite good-looking, well scrubbed and wholesome. And her sister Josephine was known as Jody. We all assumed that their parents had really, really wanted boys.
I actually prefer Roberta to Robin for a girl; but Robin (f) is so far down my personal list that this hardly matters!

I don't love it, but I was considering it as a middle name for baby #2 if it's a girl. I was considering it, because my husband's name is Robert, and we don't plan to have any more kids after this so if #2 is another girl, there will be no son to name after him.
I ran the idea by him, and he wasn't keen on the idea because he hates Roberta! He would rather not have a namesake than use a name he hates I guess - even in the middle.
I'm a little more open with middle names. I will use a name I don't like in the middle if it's honoring.

I know a family who named their youngest dd Roberta, after Dad Robert. The plan was to call her Robin which worked until she was about three or four years old. When she discovered that her "real" name was Roberta, there was no going back. She was adorable. Very strong willed. I wonder what she's up to by now. She'd be about 30 years old.
I love Roberta. While I also share your preference for the "behr" pronunciation, and farbeit for me to turn down anything with a bear sound. But I can't see your pronunciation doing well here in the U.S., at least in the West. All in all it's still worth it though.

I think it's a nice strong name. I'd imagine a Roberta to be outspoken and witty, but I can also imagine her to be kind. I also picture a Roberta to have red hair.
I don't think I know any Robertas. I'm not sure how you're pronouncing it... so the middle syllable sounds like the word "bear?" I've never heard it that way. I say rə-BUR-tə.

I used to hate Roberta too, but now I kind of like it. I'd use it as a middle name to honor someone named Robert, but I would never use it as a first name.
I picture a Roberta to be quiet, maybe a little bashful, and smart.
