i like this idea! But, i could only see it working for names that begin with B, D, J, K, Q, S, V & Z. Also, it depends on the name i guess (and therefore any letter would be an appropriate nn)

I wouldn't be against it, though I like it more for some letters than others. A seems silly, but B is cute, for example. I would think of it more as a "pet name" than a nickname though; like a family-only usage thing. :)

Well I know a Jay for James. And I have a friend Z who's name is Ziqang and just doesn't want people to bother pronouncing his name badly (which they all do). Just depends on the name. I have an Aunt Kay so someone being called K would probably make me think that was her name or her name was Kayla or along those lines. Not that big of a deal.

I'm not a fan of initial nicknames at all, whether that be in the sense you're asking or calling Robert James "RJ." Calling Daniel "D" just sounds so... football playery. Yeah, that's really the only way I can describe what I mean.

I think Q is makes the gadgets for James Bond, so that one has a cool connection. I don't think every letter would work, though. B, D, J, K, L, and M could work because they sound like names (Bea, Dee, Jay, Kay, Elle, and Emme). I know a foreign exchange student who's called G instead of trying to teach everyone how to say his name. I've called my sister S a few times while trying to get her attention. Some two letter combos work too.

It depends on the letter. A for Anne doesn't sound very nice, but I think Q for Quentin is cool. In my experience, only people with very unusual names do this. Generally using the initials of the first and middle names sounds nice. I have a friend who uses the first and second letter of her first name (but it should be mentioned that the second letter of her first name is also the first letter of her middle name.)

It depends. A for Anne doesn't really work for me. O for Owen does though. because it's pronounce O-wen. You have to actually be saying the letter.
