[Opinions] Casey for a boy
yesterday I posted a poll about boys names and so far only one soul says they like the name Casey. It's faring equally poorly on my namelist. It is my top choice for a boy right now (and we're trying to get pregnant). I don't need the name I choose to win popularity contests, but is there something wrong with Casey? If you hate it, please let me know why. And if you like it, please let me know that I'm not the only one. If it matters, I'm considering the combo Casey Fulton after two wonderful American preists who have current causes for cannonization. Fr. Solanus Casey and Archbishop Fulton Sheen

I kind of like it. It is a little hard to picture on an adult man but I think it sounds cool for a young boy/teenager. I have never known a boy Casey personally but I knew a girl when I was young. The name seems too tomboyish for a girl to me but strangely, when the spelling is changed to Kaci or Kacey or Kacie I think it is perfectly sweet. :)

I don't mind it. I have a male cousin named Kasey Tyler.

I like Casey, and I only like it for a boy...When I first began getting into names, I seemed to favor names that began with the letter C. And so Casey was always towards the top of my lists. It's one of those names I've grown out of, and wouldn't use on any of my own children now, but still would like to see it in use.

I see nothing wrong with Casey at all. I imagine a Casey being a cute, all-American, fun, funny, happy-go-lucky, smart, hard-working, just all around great guy with morals and character. It just doesn't excite me, it seems just a bit...plain? to me. But there is nothing wrong with it at all, it's a solid choice.

I have a grown nephew named Casey. I like the name, but it doesn't sound like a grown up. I'm struck by that whenever my nephew is mentioned. But if the name has meanign for you, then by all means go for it. Casey certainly isn't a bad name. And I'd much rather see it on a boy than a girl.

I don't like it and I don't hate it, but it is more toward the liking end of the spectrum than disliking. It sounds a bit dated to me, but it makes me think of Casey Jones from Ninja Turtles. Cool.

I hadn't thought about that connection. Thanks :)

I really like it! And I prefer it on a boy, though I think it works for both genders.

Meh, I find Casey childish and silly for both genders, but it's not particularly feminine, so I don't mind it too much on a boy. If you really want it, I think it would be much better with a less surnamey name than Fulton, though F. Sheen is a good namesake. I'm not familiar with Solanus Casey.

I don't love this name but thats just my opinion. People should name their own child what they want and not care about others opinions because thats what makes it special to you. If everyone liked the same it would be boring :)

I like it, but not enough for my namelist. I only know of one and he was sort of cocky, but he was pretty nice and funny as well (lol, it sort of depended on the day).

Casey is like Jamie to me. Too feminine for a boy. Yet I don't like it on a girl, because it's not feminine enough for a girl. It's just too in between. Like Darcy, also. They are too girly for a man, and too "butch" for a woman.I knew slightly a female Casey. She was my sister's niece by marriage. Not any more, I guess, since my sister is now divorced from Casey's uncle. Anyhoo, I saw her when she was six years old and haven't seen her since. She would be twenty-three now.I knew a male Casey. He was an effeminate homosexual, so he didn't help the name's "too feminine" image for me. NOT saying the name caused his gayness, or anything like that! I know it was a coincidence.

thanks for the anecdotes and explanation. They do help. That might be what has helped me to like the name, the three male Caseys I've known are boyish if not masculine. Captain of the football team, young businessman, popular high school teacher kinds of people.

that's how all the Caseys I know are too. (but then again, I'd use Jamie on a boy in a heart beat...I love more feminine names for boys though!)

I don't hate Casey, but I think it's very juvenile, and won't age well. I can't picture a 50 year old Casey at all; it's permanently 10 years old. Sorry, but that's my opinion.
