In an English-speaking country, Kirsten will cause the least amount of confusion, so go for Kirsten.
I would avoid it: it still seems tacky and down-market to me. But, I haven't seen a young one for a long, long time!

It's strange how people can have completely different perceptions of names. Where I live, Kirsten is a rare enough name to not give off the tacky impression. In fact, the only one I've met was a five year old girl, and she came from a normal family.
