The eldest Girard daughter, Jacqueline, is an organized, sensible taskmaster (although "bossy" is the way her siblings put it). Pragmatic and business-oriented, Joseph employs his daughter as a salesperson and receptionist, starting in high school and thereafter, while she attends college (the first in her family to do so!) While working in her father's store one day, she helps a shy, soft-spoken man pick a watch as a present for his father, and the man is taken with her instantly. However, he is too shy to speak with her, so every couple of days he would come and pace in front of the Girard watch shop. Jacqueline found this interesting in a detached way until one day when he came into the shop holding a bouquet of flowers. They soon began to date and Jacqueline learned that he owned one of the bakeries in town. Slowly but surely fell in love with the man's gentle demeanor, steady hands, and his wonderful pastries. Upon graduating from college, Jacqueline and her fiance married and have five daughters, all who were raised on fresh baked bread, their mother's somewhat overbearing but unending love, and their father's gentle smile.
