I prefer Laine, just because it's less like a word than Lane, and it seems more like a natural shortening of Elaine, which is how I assume this name got started.
The only real life Layne that I have known spelled it that way, though. I'm not sure what would be considered a traditional spelling. I like Layne more than Lane or Laine.
