[Opinions] Sofia
I just love this spelling and the name. What do you think? Do you think the popularity of it will have gone back a bit in 10 years (when I'll have kids)? It lost a place compared to last year, as well as Sophia.Do you know many? What do you think of Ophelia and Sofia for sisters? Too similar?

I'm not a fan of either Sofia or Sophia. They're both way too popular, and even if that popularity subsides (which I don't think it will) there will still be an awful lot of people walking around with that name. I know a lot of little Sophia/Sofias.However, I think Ophelia and Sonya might be pretty together.

by the way, I pr. Ophelia o-FAY-lee-ah, not o-FEE-lee-ah

I have 4 children and each of them know at least one Sophia. There are actually 3 Sophia's in Noah's class at school. However like you i prefer the spelling Sofia - I havent come across one yet. I do feel it will be less popular in 10 years time

Well, it's the standard spelling in Italian, so for me it's normal rather than just a variant, though I prefer Sophia myself. Anyway, it's not a name I plan to use in any form, but if I would have to for some reason (eg my SO begging me to because it's his absolute favourite), I'd use Sofia because it's more Italian. The one Sofia I ever met was an obnoxious elementary school teacher I had. It wasn't common at all until recently, but apparently atm it's on the top of popularity lists in Italy.Ophelia and Sofia seem a bit rhymey for sisters.

I'm warming to the Sofia spelling. Sophia is so tired to me. Inevitably, Sophia (and Sofia) will slip in the name rankings in ten years time. But it will still be high, at least in the top fifty. I do think Ophelia and Sofia are too similar to be sisters. Only the addition of the "L" sound in Ophelia separates them. You're going to have to choose one or the other. Happily, that's what significant others are for -- whittling down our lists. They can always be relied upon to dislike perfectly good names of ours. :-)
