I'd prefer Nickie, since Nica sounds like knicker which is inappropriate.
I wouldn't be impressed by Nica, though I'd sympathise with her need to have a shorter name than Veronica, which is a mouthful for everyday use.
I've only met one Veronica, and she didn't shorten it at all, though people tried to call her Vera and Ronnie.

I pronounce Veronica to rhyme with knicker, so naturally I pronounce Nica in the same way! This is the only pronunciation I've ever heard of Veronica in English. What language are you using?
