[Opinions] Bartholomew
What do you think of this name? I have become absurdly fond of it recently because of its baroque old-country charms, except I really dislike the inevitable Bart. If I ever used it, I think I'd put it on a pet, so I could make sure he was always Bartholomew in full.

I really like it and I have only met one person with the name, so it strikes me as an uncommon classic.
That'd be a cat - right? Bartholo-MEW?
lol
how sad that I never really thought about that. I was actually thinking more along the lines of a guinea pig, or maybe a horse. But clearly a cat it should be.

Right.
I hate the MYOO sound. So I hate the name.
I am surprised that so far you are the only one who dislikes it! I thought more people would, like you, dislike the "myoo" part and dismiss it outright. I was put off by that at first too, but like so many names I at first dislike, I tend to brood on how much I dislike them and end up loving them somehow. I hope this does not mean I will end up naming my children Michael and Jessica.
Yeah, I was also surprised that so far everyone had liked it! That's why, even though I worry that sometimes I'm too negative in stating my opinions, I went ahead and posted my negative opinion here, just to provide an opposing viewpoint. :-D
Bartholomew is a really cool name. It looks great, sounds strong. I'm with you in that I really dislike Bart. I don't think it's inevitable, though, that people would call him that. Up to a certain point, at least. Once he got older, he could decide what he'd like to be called and you could always call him by the full name.
I also really like this name, but hate the nn Bart. It would work well as a mn imo.
Gosh, I love Bartholomew! But, i'm with you on Bart, not an attractive nn for it. Tolly is nice though.
I agree that Bart is pretty much inevitable, but Bartholomew would make a great name for a pet.
I like it. I too dislike the inevitably nickname Bart though. I think Batholomew would be a good name for a pet.
Bartholomew is awesome. Tolly is also awesome! Awesomeness abounds.
Huzzah!
I had to look up what a Taoiseach is. I thought it was some kind of Tao-Kung-Fu master. Oops :)! Yeah that Bartholomew looks like a real fun guy... Bertie is a nice idea for Bartholomew though, I love Bertie. Barry is good too, but not as cute as Bertie. He looks very un-Bertie-liike though... not nearly jovial enough.
I also really like Barnaby and love the happy nn Barney, so that is also great. Lately I just love how loooong and meandering Bartholomew is, like a slow-moving river.

He specialised in a particularly grim joviality - till things didn't go his way. You can tell I am a fan right?
I feel exactly the same about Bartholomew. Lovely in full, very unattractive nickname. I'd love to see a black tomcat named Bartholomew!
I too like Bartholomew, but dislike Bart. I don't think I'd have the nerve to use it as a first name, but a middle name maybe. I'm trying to think of some less conventional nicknames. Bartho?
I like the name Bartholomew. =) It's a olden name but, it also has a interesting sound/charm about it. =) Maybe a man on the run, or gunslinger/gun-for-hire!

Oh, I adored Bartholomew at one time. I went through a period where I was obsessed with pirates and thought Bartholomew was really handsome pirate name. I understand how you feel about Bart, though. If only there was another nn to go with it! All I can think of is Bat, or maybe Mew, but that sounds kind of stupid.
My, Bartholomew would make a most excellent pirate. Bartholomew Jack strikes me as a great pirate-y combo.
I've liked it since I used it on a couple sims (all of whom were named Bartholomew Gunnar). It's on my list.
I like nn Tolly.

Bartholomew is terrific. Love it. How do you feel about the nn Tolly instead of Bart? It seems a shame to waste Bartholomew on a pet if you love it so much.
Bartholomew Knox is my favorite combo for it. :-)

I really like Tolly - thanks to beethoven and yourself for bringing my attention to it! It seems like it would take a bit more work to get people to use, but Tolly is lots of fun. I also like Bartel. I had no idea Bartholomew had so many variations - I didn't even bother looking it up!
Bartholomew Knox is a face-punch of a name. The X really kicks Bartholomew into high gear. Ohh I accidentally typed "Bartholomew Know" and that is amazing.
I will have to work on some combos! I am filled with optimism after these encouraging reactions to the name (I thought it would be too weird and awkward for most people to like).

I love Tolly!
Bartholomew is like Sebastian and Alexander. It's big and unweildy at first. But once you get over that, the fabulousness of it kicks in. Bartholomew is dreamy. Glad you liked my combo. I can't wait to see what others you come up with. :-) (Hey, Bartholomew Alex / Alec?)
