I dont think he would like be called Sandy. Chances are someone might tease him for it and he would probably revert to the standard Alex.

I love the name Sasha for a boy. It makes me swoon when I hear it. But I know that not everyone shares the same sentiments I do. For that reason I would never name my son Sasha (unless I no longer lived in the US).

I like the nickname Sandy, but for a girl. Its also fine for a boy, but I think its a bit too femine

I know a few guys who go by Sandi and their full name is Aleksandar. But then we don't ahve the female name Sandy here, so it's not a problem. The only other nickname for it that we use here is Aco (pr. Ah-tzo).

I've hear of Sandy as a nn for Alexander before, but it's always sounded too feminine for me. I'd prefer Sand.

Personally, I still prefer Alex. There is nothing wrong with a boy being called Sandy (the first thing I think of is Sandy Kovacs, as well as Sandy and Dennys, the twins from "A Wrinkle In Time"), but I just think Alex has more flair. Sandy is a little dated.

I like it - it makes me think of a shy, sweet boy with fair hair flopping over his eyes. I think since Sandy is not popular for girls any more either, it is a pretty safe choice for a nickname for a young boy. I would, to be honest, immediately think a "Sandy Smith" was a girl however - I do not think of Sandy as unisex - I KNOW it is, but my brain doesn't immediately click into that right away. But if he puts Alexander on the roll call list but his friends and parents call him Sandy, that's cool.

It's adorable! Even more so if the boy has sandy hair.

I actually know two (both Scottish- it's a popular nickname for Alexander in Scotland) and they've never had any problems with it as far as I know.

I think if you intend to call you son Sandy from Alexander I would spell it Aleksander or Alexsander maybe.

I like Sandy as a nickname for Alexander. I've encountered boys named Sandy before, and it didn't seem cruel to me. Alex is too overused as a nickname for Alexander, but I like Xander.

I actually like it. Sandy for a man isn't something I've personally seen. It might work for a small child or as a family pet name only because I can't imagine many men wanting to be called Sandy, but I imagine some don't mind.

Sandy would kinda ruin Alexander for me. It has become very feminine in use and while Alexander is a sophisticated classic to me (I admit it is too popular though), Sandy seems a little tacky. Sorry.
I understand that you're tired of Alex and so am I. How about Lex, Zander or Sacha (unisex) as nickames?

That said, there's a revival of 'Grease' showing at the moment in the next town ... shouldn't matter, but might.

I like it, I think it's cute and interesting. I've tossed it around before. I can imagine it would be automatically perceived as feminine a lot though. I think it's well as feminine as Ashley.
Zan/Xan is another alternative. I know a kid here Alexander called Zan. It really confuses people for some reason, though it seems intuitive enough to me. It works fine for him, though, and it's really namey, and everyone cooperates with it.

The only actual Alexander I knew went by Sandy. (My father in law has Alexander as a middle name and goes by Sascha btw)

My mom's name is Sandra and she used to go by Sandi and my great grandfather went by Sandy (short for Sanford) so for me it's unisex. I also think of Sandy from the television show Flipper.

I think it's too feminine but maybe I am biased because Sandra is my mother's name (though I don't think she ever went by Sandy) I went to school with an Alexandra nn Sandy.
