I never really liked this name. It seemed so overused and even when I was younger I found it a bit dated. Then Charlotte on Sex and the City (which everyone in my grade watched in their teens) named her vagina Rebecca which didn't really help.
However it has now really grown on me. The Sex and the City association has faded. I really like it sound and now that it's out of the top 100 it seems to be unpopular enough to get used again.
What do you think of Rebecca?
Do you know many? Do they go by their full name?
Do you think it's possible to avoid Becky, Becca and Reba?
Does it feel dated or still too common?

I like Rebecca. It's a strong, stand up name.
I know quite a few of varying ages, so it doesn't seem dated to me. It seems that Becca is more common a nickname among the younger Rebeccas. I once had three in my year level that all went by nicknames: Beck, Becca and Becky. You can avoid it all you want, it's up to the girl what she wants to be called. If she introduces herself as Rebecca then people tend to get the idea.

I like it. It sounds wholesome, warm and good-natured.
I really love the story from the Old Testament (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebekah) and always think of it when I meet someone with this name.
It's a good traditional name. It may become more or less popular, but it will always be a classic.
Rebecca looks prettier when written but both are fine.

I like Rebecca. I think it's a very sweet name. I've only ever known one Rebekah (spelled her name that way). Her nickname was Bekah.
Yes, I think it's possible to avoid those nicknames, though perhaps other children would still try to use those nns. I don't think the name feels dated. It feels traditional to me, and it's not all that common anymore.

-I think it's a beautiful name. Timeless, too.

-Yes, it's my aunt's name. She used to go by Becky until the 12-Step program she was doing advised her to go by a different name, so now she's Rebecca.

It's okay... I love Rebekah. For some reason I feel like it has more charm than Rebecca. I was almost named Rebecca.

Probably, as long as they're introduced as Rebecca. My brother's girlfriend goes by Rebecca among my family members because that's what he called her at first. He now calls he Becca but Rebecca stuck with us.

I know a few Rebeccas and a few Beckys.
I think it's possib;e to avoid nns, just depending on what you go by. Also, some personalities fit a nicname and others don't with this name.
I think Rebecca looks more polished and 'flowy' than Rebekah.
And apparently, one of the things I almost got named was Rebecca "Reba".

I like Rebecca, but I wouldn't use it.
I know of 5 Rebecca's, including my sister (Rebecca Joy).

It's definitely not nearly as popular now as it was twenty to thirty years ago. It's probably on its way to being dated. Whether or not it's too popular depends on what you mean by popular. Popular for the population as whole? Then yes, probably. Popular for babies born today? No.
Even though I think that Rebekah is the more authentic spelling, I prefer Rebecca.

I can think of 4 Rebeccas I've actually known, but I'm pretty sure that I've encountered more than that. Three of them usually just went by Rebecca and one went by Becky. I think it's possible to avoid nicknames. I've never met a Rebecca who was called Reba. She'd be more likely to be called Becky, Becca, or Beck, but if she introduced herself as Rebecca, most people would probably just call her Rebecca. I've noticed that a lot of people ask people with names that lend themselves to nicknames if they prefer to be called a nickname or not.

In theory, Rebecca is a fine name, but I wouldn't be able to use it because it is so popular. I knew at least two in school and have met several since (both Rebecca and Rebekah). Most of them went by Becca, but I've known one Becky and one Reba. I've never really known any Rebecca to go by her full name.
If it helps, I'd probably use Rebecca as a name for a character in a story because it would be believable as a real person's name.
