[Opinions] Blanche
I'm diggin' Blanche today, it seems really edgy in a soft, shapeless way. It seems like it should be a totally spineless name, but it has an unexpected bite.WDYT of Blanche? Does it have vintage appeal, or is it still too dated to appreciate? Combo ideas?? I'm pretty stumped about them - all I know is, I like Blanche. I also like Bianca, but Blanche seems more...honest. More genuine than Bianca.

I like it. I like Bianca and Blanche both. Hm. I think it has vintage appeal -- something I don't think Bianca has at all. It's been growing on me, I know that for sure. First, I thought it was boring and pretentious. Now I think it's charming and sweet in the same old-ladyish way Opal is.I love Blanchefleur, but it is strictly GP or mn at the most for me. I like the French prn. but the English one leaves me cold. It's a rather harsh name and definitely dated.

I can't help but think of "A Streetcar Named Desire" when I hear Blanche. That's not really a good thing, if you've ever read the play; it comes off as a sad, defeated kind of name.Blanche Amelia

It reminds me of "blotch" like blotches on the face. I have a friend whose mother wanted to name her Blanche so bad but her dad wouldnt let her. I believe they ended up naming the dog Blanche :)

Yes, yes, yes to Blanche. She's been growing on me too a lot lately. Well, that's not true. It's been a long, slow process. Years ago I met a little Blanche and I thought, "How could they do that to a sweet little girl?" Then I learned that she was named after an aunt who had died young in a car accident. Suddenly, the name became so bittersweet and haunting. Then a few years later I was in a museum. There was a crown from the 12th or 13th century, from a little known English princess named Blanche who traveled to Bavaria to get married. She brought this crown / coronet with her. Suddenly, I had a picture of a real person making what must have been an extremely difficult journey to an unknown future. I really began to like the name Blanche. It had heart.I also love Blanca. But Bianca feels too harsh and reminds me of Binaca mouth freshener. But Blanche and Blanca are fab. Blanchefleur is a GP. It could make a terrific nn for Blanche.Blanche Audrey

LOL, you saying you wish you had a dead great-aunt is funny. Now I don't like Blanche, as previously stated, and Blanchefleur was suggested as a nickname, but that seems overly flowery to me. Do you like Blanchette as a nickname? It softens Blanche quite a bit. I like Blanchette quite a bit more than Blanche itself.

Oh yes, I like Blanchette as a nn. I have a feeling I'd find all kinds of silly pet forms for a Blanche.

I don't think it's too dated. Meaning, it's not 40's and 50's dated. It's not one of those names that need another forty or fifty years to seem appealing again. Neither do I think that it's spineless. It might be considered edgy and to have vintage appeal. I also appreciate the fact that it's a very old name, in use during The Middle Ages. However, it's a name I just can't like. The sound, to me, is just so unattractive.

I could get into Blanchefleur, but Blanche seems the epitome of dowdy to me. I'd opt for Blythe, which to me has the same feeling, but still sounds fresh.
