Boring, generic, says nothing, no personality.

I can't imagine thinking of Jane as boring! It must be a generational thing, though. I only ever knew one Jane and I went to one of the largest schools in my country, so it always has seemed nice and underused to me.
No, I don't believe it's a generational thing. There was only one Jane in my high school. Although I am quite a bit older than most of the posters here, Jane wasn't particularly popular at the time of my birth, either.
It's just a personal opinion. I'm very aware that Jane is not widely given as a first name these days and hasn't been for a long while. Nevertheless, because it was so widely used for so long, centuries and centuries, it can't escape a boring, generic image for me.
My name is a form of Jane, but I'd rather have my name than Jane. I couldn't abide being called Jane.
