What do you think of Michelle for a girl? Would you spell it Michelle or Michèle? My mom is French and in France I've met more women with the Michèle spelling. I like them both.
Do you think it's dated? Trashy or tacky? Many have told me so. How many do you know? Do you think it was too common too recently? It seems to have been very popular in the 60s and 70s. Do you know any younger Michelles?

Michelle is my middle name, though I spell it with one L - Michele. No accent over the E. It's after my aunt, who spells it the same way. I've known several people who spell it Michele, but I've also known tons of Michelles. Off the top of my head I only know one other person with it as a middle name - she spells it the same way I do.
It does feel dated to around my age group (I'm 22) and a little before. The youngest Michelle I know is 18. I think it needs a bit more of a rest before it makes a "comeback." I think it just recently dropped out of the top 100.

It has been largely replaced by Michaela, which I think is a pity. I've always liked it, and since I've got two very good Michele friends, I prefer that version - lighter and more elegant. I don't see trashy or tacky exactly - for Michelle, that is - but most of the Michelles I've known have had trendy parents. Also buck teeth and a superior smile, but that no doubt is coincidence.
If I'd had an extra daughter, she would probably have been Lucy Michele Elizabeth; but I've never actually seen it as a mn as far as I recall.
I can't think of a Michelle under 30; the Micheles I know are older. So perhaps it's a tad early for a comeback as a fn.

Meh. To me, it's one of those names that tries too hard. Oh, look at me, I'm all Frenchy, I must be pretty!
Strangely, (sort of), I've know OF two Michelles but never met either one. One was the older sister of my best high school friend (nope, never met her sister), and she would be about fifty-six now. The other was a daughter of my a college friend of my husband's, and she would be twenty-five now.

It is okay but it is dated and I can't stand the nns Shell or Shelly. I know two younger ones, one was my age at school and the other was an old neighbour of mine who would be about 24 now. My friend also has a younger sister named Michelle who would be about 17 or so.
It isn't ready for a comeback, it still needs a rest. I know lots of middle-aged Michelles. I don't think it is common as a mn but I imagine it will become more common as the Michelles of the the 60s and 70s become grandmothers.

It doesn't seem dated to me at all. I put it in the same calibur as Sara(h) or Jessica: names that never seem to go away, but aren't trendy. Certainly not trashy or tacky, just very common. I have 4 Michelles on my Facebook friend list (one I went to high school with), and one Michele. I don't really know any Michelles that are younger than me, the ones I know tend to be born sometime in the 70s or 80s.
I don't think it's "ready for a comeback" in that I still think it's "around". Sure, it's not the next Isabella, but it's up there in popularity.

Tacky!? Absolutely not! This is one of my absolute favorite names! I like the Michele spelling better. :-) Go for it!

I like Michelle.
I think it's soft, pretty and sweet. I really don't get the trashy or tacky thing at all.
I would use it. It's a nice name. I try not to worry about all that other stuff.
Oh, and all the Michelles I know are young adults.

I don't think it's tacky or trashy -- however, despite its appealingly soft sound, I'm quite tired of hearing it.

I love Michelle and I wanted to name my daughter Michelle when I was a kid (One of my favourite shows on TV was "Full House" ;)) But I think it is a really dated and yes, a trashy name right now, sadly. I live in Germany and here, Michelle is a name from the 90's, so I know a lot of girls named Michelle in my age (I am 20).
