I like Vernon Samuel although Vernon for me has a very Joe-Bob and Cletus-y feel.

I like it very much too. I used to know one who was tall and fair and rather gorgeous, and went by Vern.
Vernon Charles, Vernon Louis, Vernon Samuel and Vernon Rufus are my favourites from your list. Vernon Walter Louis was my combo for it.

Other than Uncle Vernon from HP, my elementary school bully was named Vernon. I'd never use it, but if you like it, don't worry about what one person you'll probably never meet thinks of it.

aww I love VernonI had a great-uncle Vernon by marriage and he was so nice. It makes me think of prospector cabins in the mountains, a kind of subdued adventurer name. I am starting to love the name more and more and would seriously consider it for a real child - it has that cozy, unexpected olden-day vibe that appeals so much to me. I wonder though if my mother's cousins and their children (Vernon's family) would find it odd if I used it, since, I hardly knew Vernon before he died?I am lovin' these:Vernon Cosmo
Vernon Elliot
Vernon Hugh - yes! Also Vernon Hugo!
Vernon Julius - wonderful!
Vernon Lazarus - love that Z in there, the spicy surprise of it
Vernon Leo - love it
Vernon Louis
Vernon Maxwell - this has the hallmarks of the name of some Count's heir born in the East Indies who gave up his fortune to join the California gold rush, fantastic
Vernon Rufus
Vernon Samuel - so lovely, and normally I can's stand Samuel
Vernon Theo - PERFECT hipster cool and yet wonderful old school
Vernon Tobias - oh Vernon Toby!
Vernon Ulysses - oh that heyday dapper echo is so strong in this one
