Within only a few months of their becoming king and queen, Alexander and Mirabelle found out they were expecting a baby! They were both so happy, especially since the bandit-raids in the west seemed to have come to an end. Everything seemed like it was going to be wonderful, until an old flame of Alexander's from before he met Mirabelle came to them. Lady Carolina, like Mirabelle, was a very minor lady. She was only eighteen when she and Alexander had their brief romance, but she had already been widowed for over a year. Alexander had only just turned sixteen and things went faster and farther than they should have. He had told Mirabelle about Carolina, but what neither of them expected was for her to show up shortly before their child birth with a two-and-a-half year old son in tow. From the moment they laid eyes on him, Mirabelle and Alexander both knew that this was his child--Wyatt Alexander Christopher Lyle is the spitting image of Alexander. Carolina explained that she had not wanted to damage his relationship with Mirabelle, which is why she had never told him about Wyatt. But recently she found out that she has no choice; she is dying of a tumor in her neck, and she has no other family to take care of him. She didn't ask that Wyatt be made prince or even that Alexander publicly ackowledge him as his son, just that he take care of him.
Alexander, astounded that he had a son and hurt that Carolina had not told him when she found out she was pregnant, wanted to be part of his son's life now that he knew about him but was afraid that Mirabelle would be hurt by it. So he was surprised when Mirabelle came to him and said that she thought they should take Wyatt. She was a little hurt and jealous that she was not giving birth to Alexander's first child, but she did not blame Alexander or Carolina, and certainly not Wyatt. "Your son needs his father, and very soon he's going to need a mother as well. I'm willing to be that for him," she said. Mirabelle even suggested that Alexander publicly acknowledge Wyatt as his son. "It will be less of a scandel if you own up to it than if we try to hide it and someone finds out later," was her logic.
Carolina was extremely grateful when Alexander and Mirabelle told her what they had decided. She knew he could not rule, as Fairlin's laws say an illegitimate child cannot rule if a legitimate heir is produced, but that was never her worry. Alexander and Mirabelle spent Carolina's last weeks getting to know and love Wyatt. She passed away a few weeks before a beautiful little princess was born. The entire kingdom celebrated this birth and the continuation of the Glorian bloodline. Mirabelle and Alexander named her Cecelia for the patron saint of music, since Mirabelle swore she sang like a bird when she cried, Lily Mirabelle after the queen, and Caroline for Carolina, who they both agreed to honor for Wyatt's sake. The revelation of Wyatt caused a stir in the kingdom, but it was more of pity for the whole sad situation than anything else; the kingdom was willing to forgive the popular young king for his youthful indescretion. Alexander and Mirabelle considered making him a prince, but in the end decided it might be too much to soon, so they have made him a duke, at least for now. Alexander and Mirabelle adore their sweet daughter, and Alexander adores Wyatt as well. Mirabelle, to everyone's admiration, loves him as well and treats him like her own.
