Help[Opinions] Emily.
This name has been at the back of my mind for a long time and it's sudden come back with a vengeance. Despite knowing someone who was the complete opposite the name has a quiet elegance to it.
I'm really, really liking it. I don't know many people with the name so it's not tired to my ears like Isabel or Sophia (I know a ton of Isabels and my niece Sophie has 5 in her grade.)
What do you think of it? My husband isn't sold on it but he rarely is at first. I'm liking Emily Sigrid right now.

I really like Emily, which is surprising since you hear it everywhere. (I can't believe you don't know many of them!) I agree it does have a quiet elegance about it, and it's very busy and loving and prairie-ish.

Different areas I suppose.
Growing up I knew a few Emilys but I haven't met any children with the name. Just lots of Emmas.
The odd thing is that I didn't think the association with my ex's sister was enough to keep me from using the name...until I started saying it often in my head. :-( Now I can't help but think of her.

I don't think I know any Emilys younger than 20. It seemed like there were always plenty my age, though. I don't think I know any Emmas, either. But I suppose I don't know a whole lot of little kids.

I was thinking about Emily today as well when I mentioned it in a thread. I've always thought it was rather sweet and demure...you wouldn't expect an Emily to make a scene or respond impolitely. Saying that it has a quiet elegance is perfect. The only downside is that it might be considered "a name of the 2000s" in the future since it dominated the charts for so long.
Emily Sigrid is nice. Emily Ingrid would be too. When Emily was my #1 name, my favourite combos were Emily Margaret and Emily Aloisia.

I like Emily, despite having a bratty cousin with the name. It's pretty, and Emmy is a cute NN.

I like Emily Sigrid. Especially if you live in an ares without many Emmas and Emilys. I also like Emily Rose, Emily Astrid, Emily Summer, Emily Gabriella, and Emily Iseult. Oh, and Emily Giovanna.
I think Emily is a lot more practical-sounding than Sophia/Isabella/etc. even if it's just as popular.

I really like the name Emily and always have. I remember I had a friend at school with the name when I was quite young. It's sweet and elegant and works well on a little girl, but also fits an adult.

I really like it too, even though it's so popular. And I absolutely LOVE Emily Sigrid! That is pure genius! :)

I love it- it is elegant, classy, and timeless. Honestly, it is probably my favourite girls' name of all time. The only fault I can find with it is the popularity but if that isn't an issue in your area then I say go for it.
Emily Sigrid is adorable. I like the abruptness of Sigrid next to the smooth sounding Emily. I also think Emily definitely needs a more unusual mn to balance out the popularity. Emily Truth has been on my list for awhile which might strike your fancy as well :-)

I think we're going with Sojourner instead of Truth, though - Miriam Sojourner is a top contender for first baby.
I'm still on the fence with it. I'm not too worried about popularity for a few reasons - it's not that popular in North Dakota and it's one of those names that has always been around, here and there.
*shrugs* I still don't know if it will hit my list for good yet. I still have my ex's sister in my head as a deterrent - even though the good namesakes outweigh the bad one. We'll have to see.

It's ok. I remember liking it when I was younger. Now, I do know a few Emilys. I'm also just not that into the -mily sound.
But it'd be ok on someone else's kid, as long as they didn't mind the popularity potential. Just because you don't know any little Emilys doesn't mean your child would never run into them.
I'd still probably prefer to see it as a middle name though.

Oh, I know she'll run into others. I still far prefer Embla but I'll never get that past hubby. :-D

I'm not trying to sound mean here, but you are obviously new here. Emily and Emma have been in the top ten for several years. I've only met a couple of Emilies, one in middle school, and one who's in her early 30's. It's a nice name, so if you really like it, go ahead and use it. Maybe Sigrid Emily if you really like the names.

I'm more than familiar with the popularity of Emily but I've known several, none of them kids. I also live in a area that really doesn't reflect the larger naming trends, so I have a lot of leeway there. This area prefers "cowboy" sounding names.
