DH: Neil Joseph Jorkins (42) - A very Athletic man, Neil once had dreams of being and olypmic swimmer, but a car accident his junior year of high school quenched those. Neil has become a computer softwear engineer, but he still often flaunts the attitude of a domineering jock -- arrogent, pushy, and critical. On the other side, he is the best person to have around when you want a good laugh.
(Ex-DW: ) Tasha Lynn Dahl - She was young when she married and had Ross (she calls him Ross because she thought the name Ross was "cool"; everyone else calls her son Arnie, after Neil's father). Tasha was an artist. She felt both that she had missed out on precious life experience and that the whole married-with-a-kid thing was putting a serious stopper on her creativity, so she bailed. She wrestles with it, but can't say that she truly regrets it. In many ways, she has divorced herself more than her husband, she feels almost that the things she did before she left Neil don't count, that she was someone else. She still loves Ross, though.
DW: Marion Elaine Dzmura (47) - Marion was raised by immegrant parents. She was always a bit shy and very intelligent, not the sort of girl who was asked on lots of dates. She watched her younger sisters marry and have babies, but she was left with no one. The older she got, the most she realized that all she wanted was to marry and have children. Eventually, she met Neil.
DS (from DH's first marriage): Arnold Ross Jorkins "Arnie"/"Ross" (17) - Has his father's volitile attitude and his mother's artistic mind and desire to go against athority. Potentially, Arnie could have been a very dislikeable kid, but then he just wasn't. While he can be short-tempered and judgemental, Arnie has a real ability to see into things, into people, and find something truthful and real. Because of this, he's a person almost everyone feels comfortable around. On the down side, he has real trouble dealing with his personality flaws because no one is willing to tell him when he is messing up -- except his step Mom, who he has trouble with.
DD: Nora Claire Jorkins (14) -- Nora is the type of girl who really seems to have it all together. She has top notch grades, a solid group of friends, plays the trumpet, runs track, and listens to all the best music. Inside, though, Nora is a very different person. She loathes herself for having no opinions on anything and tries to hide it by being so busy, too busy. She cried whenever she reads poetry. She feels that she is on the brink of doing somethin drastic, something that will shock everyone and everything -- or not.
DD: Elsie Melody Jorkins (12) - Elsie wears her heart on her sleave, and it is a very fickle heart. She laughs or cries at the drop of a hat, and everybody knows it. Elsie feels that her family is weird. Her grandparents are weird because of their accents, her mom is weird because she's older than other moms, her dad is weird because he's grouchy, her bother is weird because he dresses weird and yells sometimes, and her sister is weird because she's so busy. Plus, all their names are weird, and old, and ugly. Elsie just wants to be normal. But how could she living with these peple? Oh, her life is a bubble of woe. No one understands.
