It's a simple, friendly name with a lot of good history. I don't think I'd use it on a child, but if it was my name I'd be quite happy about having it.

Meh.
I don't really like it. My name being Rachel, I can't really avoid it. The sound is just harsh to my ears and it feels awkward in my mouth when I say it. Nicknames like Rach and Rachey are terrible; Rae is alright. I like that it's classic and feminine and strong standing in society, though I feel that it's starting to date.
I do, however, like Rachel as a middle name.

Positive! I adore it!
I love the sound. It's feminine without being frilly or austere. It can fit a wide range of personalities and it's the name of two of my best friends. I consider it rather likely that this will be the first or middle name of a daughter if I have one.

I have a bad association with the name but I wouldn't mind it on some one else's kid or in a book.

My review is mixed. I like that it's an ancient Biblical name that was historically popular. This gives it some charm. But then its sound is not the greatest to me. The RACH sound is quite harsh. It's got some charm, but I would never use it.

I *love* the name Rachel
It's very unlike my usual taste in names, in that Rachel is 1) Biblical and 2) very classic. But I think it's a great name. It's got a fantastic sound, and it can go with many other names, be them simple or ridiculously elaborate. It also has a very intelligent air about it. I can't really imagine a stupid Rachel...

Negative. Not only is it really common in my age group, but it's one of those names that looks prettier than it sounds, so I'm always disappointed.

Well, I wouldn't use it because I have a sister named Rachel, but it's definitely positive. I don't have any bad associations with this name, I'm a big fan of Rachel from Friends, and I love my sister, so no negativity in it for me.

It's a nice name but I know so many horrible people with it! I know nice people with the name Rachel but it's always the horrible ones that come to my mind first on hearing the name.

Used to be positive back when I met a beautiful Raquel in Mexico and she played me an acoustic song on her guitar. She had long, dark hair with flowers in it and tan skin and sun on her face. She didn't speak a word of English, but she smiled at me and gave me her bracelet and I fell in love (well, as much in love as a fifteen-year-old girl who didn't even know her could be).
So, for a while Rachel reminded me of her.
Then, a few years later, I fell in love with another girl, an English one who when she went home, promised to return the next summer and we'd spend it together again. Then she went home and fell in love with someone named Rachel and could only tell me how amazing Rachel was. Now I see Rachel as a girlfriend-stealer.
I'd never known a Rachel really personally. I couldn't say what impression I'd have of it if I did.
Personal associations aside, I can't see a reason for it not to be a perfectly nice name. It's classic and not overused. It could be nice, I suppose.

I like it, but it has a nasty habit of becoming Ray. Perhaps in the US it becomes Rae? If that can be avoided, it's a good one.

I'm in the US and I've never heard a Rachel called Ray/Rae. Usually they go by their full name with Rach or Rachie as an occasional NN.

My best friend in highschool was Rachel (this spelling). I get a positive feeling, but it's nms.
