Another daughter joined Darius, Roland, Zephaniah, Matilda, and Hallelujah. Alethea, called Lettie, is a quite little thing, especially for being a baby. She is tiny. Zephaniah is still soft-hearted toward babies, and is quite drawn to little Lettie.
Since the war broke out, Roland and Darius have been left to themselves. Roland wasn't able to play with Ariel and Peninnah, and Darius wasn't able to go see Miriam. The friendships between Elissa's boys and Elijah and Adina's Miriam, Ariel, and Peninnah have stayed at the same spot they were since the beginning, though some seem to think that Darius and Miriam's friendship is becoming deeper, and possibly something more. Darius doesn't think so, and even if it was, he wouldn't admit it.
Elissa and Hiram are still siding with the king for now. They've heard of some things the king has done that they aren't quite sure they agree with. But they don't want to side with the conspirators, either. Elissa and Hiram aren't neutral, but they are neither side.
