For months Andrew had been trying to hurt, poison and harm the royal family (without their knowledge, of course). He never really got the chance and his tries could've gone on for a long, long time, if it wasn't for Duke Elijah. Duke Elijah had, over some good rum, made a joke about "how the Butler was incapable of even the most simple tasks, like killing the king". Rumor spread fast, and soon the Inquisitor, baron FitzGilbert, were knocking on the Mullinix's door.
Andrew could instantly tell what was about to happen when he saw the baron's face. His last words were: "My wife is innocent, I swear!". Andrew commited suicide by slicing his throat open right after that (nasty blood stains on FitzGilbert's cape). Jocelyn had just sung songs to Sandra, to make her fall asleep, when she heard the noise in the hallway. She went out, and saw her husband dead and FitzGilbert's shocked face.
Baron FitzGilbert could see that Jocelyn was innocent - she looked very pure-hearted and kind. She couldn't even kill a fly. Besides, he had seen her every sunday in church. Of course she had nothing to do with the civil war.
No one really talked about Andrew's death. He didn't get a funeral (FitzGilbert decided to burn his body without the privilege of having a funeral, that was the procedure of traitors to the king), and Jocelyn decided to tell everybody he had left her without saying goodbye. FitzGilbert never told anyone the truth (that he had been one of the rebels), he felt sorry for Jocelyn (he thought it was obvious that such a good Christian wasn't even aware of her husband's deeds).
Soon after that, Jocelyn found out that she was pregnant again. She decided that it wasn't safe for her in the city anymore, and she was filled up with rage (something she'd never felt before). She could no longer work for the queen. What had her husband done? Why did he deserve to die? All she knew was that it was the the royal inquisitor's fault. And the royal inquisitor worked for the royal family, i.e. they had killed Andrew. Rebellious thoughts started to grow...
They made her feel scared of herself, because she wasn't really a violent person.
She packed her bags and bought a very old and sick horse with her last pennies. Her family lived far away, but Jocelyn didn't know where else to go. But just a few miles outside town, the baby started coming. Exhuasted, scared and still very sad from her husband's death, she thought she was going to die and told Sandra to run for help (she didn't want her daughter to see her like this). Just when she thought she heared a choir of angels, a tall man was standing infront of her. She recognized him vaguely...
"Lord?" she murmured, figuring she'd gone to heaven. Instead she heard her daughter's voice:
"Mommy, I found count Ezio! He can help you!" she shouted.
Ezio had just moved back to his Villa, and it was right there Jocelyn had begun to give birth. With some help from Ezio's nurse, Jocelyn could deliver the baby safely. Ezio allowed her to stay a couple of nights in his Villa, to get back on her feet. Jocelyn was very moved by his gesture and hospitality. When he asked what she was doing on the road, nine month's pregnant, she couldn't help herself from telling him the whole story.
There was a lot of emotions, and Ezio was such a good man who bared to listen to her. Once she had started to talk, she couldn't stop. She even told her about poor Magnus, and how betrayed she felt by the queen, and how scared she was, not knowing if she could give Sandra a good and safe childhood.
Ezio understood right away what had happened, and let her stay as a guest in the Villa, for as long as she wanted. In his eyes, she was a brave woman who had survived the inquisitor, and the wife of an even braver man who had died while he was trying to complete his mission to kill the king. He almost fell in love with her.
Seeing what gentlemen the rebels were, and hearing Enzio's stories about the royal family's cruelty, Jocelyn was now definetly a rebel too. The baby boy she had delivered looked just like Andrew, and was strong and lively. Jocelyn gave him the MN André to honour Andrew. Sandra liked him too, and was happy. She liked living in the Villa, with all the delicious, interesting food from that other country she hadn't heard of before... And she had found a true friend in Fede, they usually played all day. After a couple of weeks, she had even forgot about Neven... Still, Jocelyn missed Amy.
